Many of you have noticed that NW Cryobank increased our price for sperm vials effective January 9th, 2017. We have also differentiated our prices for the ICI prepared vials and the IUI prepared vials. The price adjustment is due to a number of factors that we believe are worthy of explanation.
The differential pricing for the ICI and IUI preparation is due to the fact that the IUI (intra-uterine insemination) preparation requires several additional steps and reagents to properly prepare. It also requires more time on the part of the technologist. It is standard in the industry to differentiate the pricing between the 2 preparations and NW Cryobank has resisted passing these additional costs on to our customers for many years but the cost of the steps and reagents has grown to a point that this pricing differential is now essential.
The overall pricing of our vials has been affected by a number of increased costs as well as the implementation of new benefits and services to our customers. Customers now have increased services to better select the donor that best fits their interest and requirements.
• Disclosure of genetic testing performed on the donor, with complementary genetic counseling
services for our clients.
• Psychological assessment inventory which is evaluated by our Psychologist (PhD) to
comprehensively screen and assess possible adult psychopathology of the donor.
• Counseling session with our MSW counselor to better understand the donors motives in
participating and to help identify and behaviors that might make him an unsuitable candidate
for the NW Cryobank Donor program.
• Donor background investigation that identifies any criminal activity not disclosed on the donor
application.
• Verification of the donor’s education accomplishments, the donor’s curriculum and the college or
institution that they have or are attending.
• Testing for additional diseases not required by the FDA
• Increase in the number of donors prepared to be open ID if any offspring wish this information
• Increase shipping and handling costs which we have absorbed for several years.
