Birth Story!

My wife and I welcomed our sweet boy, Rowan Maxwell, into the world on January 30th at 8:49am after 12hrs of labor with only 49 minutes of pushing!

My OB started checking me at my 36 week appointment, I was 2cm dilated and 40% effaced then....3cm and 60% at the next appointment...3.75cm and 75% at the following. Doctor was happy with progress but surprised I wasn't having any contractions.

At 39+1 I was cleaning carpets when my water broke! I totally thought I had just peed myself and was pretty annoyed. Went to the bathroom and there was so much blood I immediately started having a panic attack. Wife called the doctor, we went to l&d to verify if it was amniotic fluid or urine, and were admitted at 9:30pm! I was dilated to 4cm and 80%...

About 10:30pm, I started having contractions....back labor was terrible and I was on the verge of vomiting with every single one so opted for an epidural. Slept on any off most of the night. At 8am, my doctor came to check me and said I was ready to push!

Started pushing and he had almost crowned with the second set of pushes, doctor told me not to push for the next few because he wanted to try to turn him (he was sunny side up), but Rowan had other plans and shot out without me pushing! Doctor had to catch him!

Recovery has been rough since I'm dealing with a 3rd degree tear...
So glad to be able to hold our little boy though! He's breastfeeding like a champ and is a little cuddlebug.

Congratulations! I had a fairly quick delivery as well when my daughter (now 15 months) was born. She was already crowning before I started pushing.

Hope your recovery is swift. Taking the high-dose Ibuprofen on a schedule every 8 hours kept me essential pain-free when I was recovering from an extensive episiotomy.

Wow he's perfect, congratulations! That is honestly the most beautiful newborn I have ever seen. Most kids are born looking like angry raisins but he looks cherubic and serene.
