Dewar is here!!! Now waiting for smiley- advice on timing for 44yr old

The dewar is here, yay! It is my 1st time ordering & I was freaking out in my head because the dewar box was on it's side when I went downstairs in my apartment complex to pick it up from the UPS delivery guy. I said to the guy, "it's not supposed to be on it's side- can't you see the big labels?, Seriously- how long as is been on it's side?" He replied, "It's been like that all day, I don't pack my truck & it was on the truck like that all day." I said to him,"What??? It is clearly labeled, and you ignored it too!" Then I asked for his supervisor's name & number, which I did call the UPS to report how the box instructions were ignored. After that I called NW in a panic cause I was worried that now my swimmers were no good. NW calmed me down saying that the dewar is probably fine, and that it is guaranteed for 7 days. If the dewar is on it's side, it lessens the days it will stay frozen, that is why it needs to be upright. Anyway, it seems that all is ok and luckily I'm probably going to O in the next day or 2.

So that drama is over... and now I am just waiting for my smiley from the OPK. I also used fertile focus, and tested my saliva and it is showing that I am ferning now. My cw is not quite ewcm, but getting there. I'm thinking that because of my age, 44yrs, that I should do ICI within a few hours of getting +OPK, then 12 hours later, and then 12 hours later again. Does that sound right?

For example, If I get my smiley at 6pm, then I would do 1st vial by 8pm, then do vial #2 at 8-9am, then vial #3 at 9-10pm.

That way from the time I get my smiley to the last ICI it would be about 27-28 hrs from surge and assuming that the sperm can live 12-24 hrs or more, that would cover a minimum of 40- to a maximum of 52 hrs from the surge.

What do you all think?

Also any other advice about the whole process is welcome- this is my 1st time and I'm doing it by myself so any advice is helpful.

Thank you! :)

That timing sounds perfect given all the other factors you've mentioned. Good luck!

With 3 vials, you have a very good chance of hitting the right timing. With your age, I think your planned timing sounds perfect. Good luck!

Good luck to you!! I would have kicked that UPS delivery person! When the guy gave us ours he kinda kicked it over to me, I nearly freaked on his ass!! LOL! I'm protective of my huge sums of money and future kids! Come on!! Anyway...I wish you tons of luck! I am keeping my dewar more than 7 days and just hoping it's fine. I've not had a +OPK yet, and still waiting and on day 6 with dewar. No biggie, I guess. I think your timing is good. I keep trying to plan my perfectly and keep coming back to 12 and 24 hours. I think I O quickly after, within 24 hours. That said, once they get in there, they're on their own! Also - I JUST read about ferning today. How does that work?

The ferning pattern on the special microscope lens of fertile focus of saliva means that is the fertile time when the estrogen spike which from what i understand is right before surge - so i'm expecting surge tonight or tomorrow morning...Ferning is a pattern that shows up only when there is higher estrogen... and when it is strong ferning it is saying that is the time I am most fertile and ovulation is going to happen really soon or is happening. I'm hoping that by using that, and the opk, plus checking cm, then i'll time it right and *magic* will happen :)

I spoke to the supervisor at UPS and put in a complaint. Unfortunately there is nothing that will be done other than him talking with driver and person who loaded the truck... but let me tell you , he got a earful!

Good luck to you too! :)

well... I am 39, so I am on the older side for ttc and I notice that I seem to O very close to +opk....I have even heard of "older" woman doing insem right at positive opk (at 0 hours past opk) and have even read of some doing in prior to opk (maybe they had a slight positive opk? )... Just something to think about. I am going to do my insem pretty close to opk, probablly less than 12 hours....

Good luck to both of us!

I plan on doing 1st vial as soon as i see smiley, just because of my age... of course now that i'm paying attention to everything and stressing, my smiley is later than expected- was sure it would be yesterday.... but now thinking that I will do 1st vial tonight even if i don't get smiley before then...

    Baby dust to everyone!
