So bummed :( Should I cancel this cycle or add injectables?

So bummed Went in for CD10 u/s & only have 1 tiny follicle under 5mm on Right ovary & 1 small follicle 9mm on Left, after Clomid 100mg CD3-9! Specialist suggested cancelling cycle due to poor response.

I asked about adding injectables so she gave me RX for Gonal F, 150 iu for 3 days starting today & said come back for u/s on Sunday CD12 to see response after 2 injections & then decide what to do.

And I was really surprised because I had a great response last month on Clomid CD5-9 with 3 mature follies, but the timing was off for iui & now after being on Clomid for 2 extra days starting earlier on CD3 instead I end up having a poor response....It's as if my eggs say "hey, you're 45 now, so give it up, we're tired!"

*What should I do, cancel now & not spend more money & ship back vials for next cycle, or spend the extra $500-1500 for injections & continue w/this cycle even though so far it's a bust?

All I feel like doing is crying & giving up...

That is a tough one. I never did clamid and gonal f in the same cycle.

If I were you I'd cancel this month and do the injectables next month for more days. I think I did mine maybe 7-10 days (it was a year ago, i cant remember exactly but it was also IVF).

Also you are already day 10, I don't know if you would be able to catch up (unless you have a really long cycle) even with the gonal f.

    Sorry, and good luck.

No, I have short cycles of only 25-26 days, so I don't know if the follies that are barely there will grow at all... so hard to decide what to do....

That's such a tough decision. It's hard to skip a cycle, but did they give you any indication that they thought adding injectables might help? Sorry you have to deal with this.

The specialist didn't think adding the injectables would make that much of a difference, but it may help to develop the 2 follies... but her suggestion was to cancel the cycle ( so I don't waste more money in case the follies dont grow)& hope that next cycle I'll have a better response & do clomid with the gonal f....

As much as it sucks to sit out a cycle, I would. I would try next cycle, and maybe go back to the original Clomid protocol and then add in the injectables if you want/need to. I did Clomid and Gonal f together and got pregnant 2 out of 3 times! :)

looks like I can't add the gonal f this cycle because none of the pharmacies have it in stock so all have to special order it and a few can get it by tomorrow afternoon (sams club, target, walgreens, cvs- I called all of them) ...

I hate sitting out this cycle and sending my vials back, with all the money I already invested this cycle so I don't know if I should add the cost of one more ultrasound for cd13 to see if they grow enough to trigger or just forget about it all together... uuugggghhhhhh :(

have to run but wanted to respond quick....

if you have a cyst at the start of a cycle (anything over 10mm on CD 3) it will absorb all the FSH stimulation and suppress the real follicles from growing. This is why doctors will do a "baseline" ultrasound on CD3 before starting meds, because if there is a cyst you will have a rude surprise on CD 12 or whenever you go in for a monitoring ultrasound and find out that nothing is going on. Is it possible you had a especially since you used clomid last cycle? did you have a baseline ultrasound? did you feel anything in the last week that felt like it could have been a cyst popping?

I would ask your Dr if this is possibly what happened? because if that's it then you should not worry that you are not going to stim well with meds... NO ONE stims well when they have a cyst. The damn cysts waste a cycle by taking all the hormones and then once the cyst pops you are left with nothing.

I just can't figure that you would stim really well one month and then not respond on more meds, ya know?

Hi Hadley, No cysts, had my baseline u/s on CD 2 and all was good... according to the specialist, she said it is not uncommon for women of "advance maternal age" have a good response one month and a poor one the next... i was surprised because by taking the clomid earlier and for 2 days longer I was expecting to have more follicles... but she said maybe my body just responds better on the protocol of clomid cd5-9 after my own body "kick starts" the follicle development on its own since this cycle of clomid on cd 3-9 didn't work well for me.

I would sit this one out as difficult as it will be. You won't be spending money that can be used for future cycles on one that may be a bust anyway. I am sorry this isn't working out this cycle for you.

I agree with sitting it out. I know how hard it can be. You've invested time money and so much emotion. But next time you can start with maybe something more intense and get a better response and get that BFP!! Good luck!

Well, I agree with you all.... Going to send back my swimmers :(

Cycle officially cancelled due to poor response to clomid this time. Will be using only Gonal F next cycle so hopefully will have a good response... So gearing up for next shot of conceiving in June... I will need more than a sprinkle of baby dust, I'll need a silo-full and industrial size fans to blow it all around!
