I went in this morning for my first trimester screening, essentially the Nuchal Translucency Screen. They drew some blood and then the Ultrasound Technician spent about a half an hour looking at the baby from many different angles. She took measurements of the nuchal fold, etc. Essentially, they'll be able to determine (with 85% certainty) if there is any risk of chromosomal abnormalities.
I'll have official results on Friday but, in the meantime, the tech told me that everything looked "great" and that I appear to have a "perfect baby." As well, the Genetic Counselor reviewed the ultrasounds and then determined that she and I did not need to speak...I'm taking that as a good sign!
Hours later, I'm still completely in awe of this little person.
