Good luck, cats are so much fun. You have to work for their love but once you have it they are yours for life.
TTC #1 5/16/11 = BFP 14 DPI / TTC #2 11/16/12 = No O; 4/12/13= BFN; 6/9/13 = BFP!! (11 DPI) - MC 5wk5dys / TTC#3 3 BFN's and 4th try 10/21/13 = BFP!!!! (Squinter at 10dpi!)
I recommend just using clumping litter and scooping often.
ETA: I also tried Fresh Step with Crystals once, and that was pretty awful, too.
When I was using clumping litter, I liked Fresh Step or Tidy Cats Multiple Cats litter. But what I do now is just buy the Fresh Step clay litter, fill the box up, then dump the whole thing every couple of days. It just works better for me, rather than scooping.
We recently added a puppy to our family. As of today he is 9-weeks old -a male black lab. I put down my 14-year-old Golden a year ago & my 15-year old 2-years. I figured this would be the best timing between R's age & a future child, it helps my disabled sister a lot for companionship & mostly Vanessa since she has not been herself at all since things. I'm going crazy but hard work in the puppy phase pays off later. Already knows 3 words :-)
I have two litter boxes (multiple cats). Before I was pg I scooped them 2x a day and never had a smelly house. Now still with DH doing it 1x per day or every other day (he's forgetful) it does not smell. I used clumping litter (Tidy Cats) for a long time, but then switched to a corn based litter because our dogs sometimes eat the cat poo with the litter on it (lovely, I know...)
Something that makes it easy is to keep all the supplies (bags, scoop, broom, etc) near the box. I also sweep or vacuum the area around the box several times a week because one of my kitties is a "litter kicker." If you have an uncarpeted area to keep the box that would probably be easiest.
I'd just like to say thanks to all of you for reminding me why I'll never have a cat.
