Arsenic in Rice (ped.s advising not giving it to under 5s)

High concentrations of arsenic have been found in American grown rice. The FDA is saying don't worry, but pediatricians are saying not to give rice milk to under fives, and to stop giving baby rice. The way around this is to use rice from elsewhere or organic rice, but still not from Southern states or Texas.

There's also a movement to stop giving rice cereal to babies because of the negative effects on their blood sugar in the long run.

We never did rice cereal, there truly is no nutritional value and the rice cereal is full of yucky things for babies. There have been studies done linking it to obesity in children and as K&H said blood sugar issues.

Well that's just swell. Kate and I both drink rice milk daily. I found an article on it and I'm not sure that organic is really going to be much better.

Incredible. What's arsenic doing in rice?? *sigh* Shiloh has oatmeal for breakfast most mornings. I really hope those fields are from from the arsenic paddies!
