How to use Chalkboard and magnet paint so it works.

It's almost time to paint. :D I plan to use magnetic/chalkboard paint on a half wall. I hear chalkboard paint works well but magnetic paint may not and you have to follow the directions carefully. Can anyone who's been there and done that lead me to a good online tutorial or give me tips? There's not many directions on the cans of paint I've seen. Are there certain brands that are better? Do you think it's wise to do one half wall or should I do one wall with a 5 year old and 2 year old? I feel the magnetic paint is to pricey to do a whole wall.
