I may be adopting a tiny little girl. She still has a long road ahead of her so I have some time. I got to go visit her and was told on my list of things to prepare for her to come home is a good car seat one recommended for premies...anyone have any advise?

The Chicco Keyfit starts at 4lbs and fits tiny babies very well.

Just be prepared she might need a flat car seat depending on when they send her home. Sometimes sitting at the angle of the car seat makes their oxygen drop. Usually hospitals provide it though if it is needed.

I will look at a Chicco brand...I didn't know about a flat carseat...baby is 3 hrs. away in a hospital. She is 2 wks old today and doing very well..no setbacks.

They test the baby just before going home. It's called a car seat challenge test. Its done on preterm babies or very small babies. It's usually minimum of 1-1.5 hrs long or however long it takes to get baby home. If oxygen, heart rate, or respirations drop below a certain number within that time period then the baby gets to ride in a flat car seat till she is either able to pass or is considered full term. But you still definitely want a regular seat for later.
