I am so excited to hit 32 weeks tomorrow. I only have 39 days until I go into the doctor for balooning? I'm not sure what it is called lol. He is putting a balloon in my cercix to try and start labor on June 16th and if nothing happens then I get induced at the hospital on June 17th. I can't believe how close I am to meeting my little girl! How is everyone else doing?

I hadn't either until he told me that's what we are doing. We didn't go into detail but he said we will talk about it when it gets closer to time. I'm still wondering what it all entails.

That's how I feel. I was always told pregnancy went by slow but I feel like it went extremely fast.

I agree, I am in the same group with you , I'm 34 weeks tomorrow. I will ask my doc about ballooning she suggested only induction to me.

I've heard of the balloon thing, but only within the context of an induction in the hospital. Is your doc planning to do it in-office, then send you home? I don't think it works rapidly, so I suppose that's feasible. The ball falls out once you've dilated to a certain point (4cm, I think), so you'd know for sure when it's time to go to the hospital.

I was sent home after my first round of "cervical ripening" (with a medication placed on my cervix), but I had to go to the hospital to get it done. They kept me in triage and monitored for a couple hours, then sent me home when nothing was happening. Next day, I went back in and they used a stronger med, which got things going. Even then, at 3cm, the doc gave me the option to go home and wait for labor to progress or stay and start pitocin. I was 41 weeks 3 days, so I chose to stay, and my daughter was born 6 hours later. Doc broke my water simultaneously with starting pitocin, and things went quickly from there.

Red heather explained it perfectly I know it as a foley bulb induction. They place a tube into your cervix inflate a ballon with saline and it basically puts pressure on the cervix encouraging it to dilate. It usually comes out when you are 3-4 cm dilated( if it didn't slip out right after placement which can happen). Although you have to be dilated at least a little usually it's done with cervical ripening which has to be in the hospital.

He mentioned he ballooned to give me a chance t go in labor. Maybe she can offer you that as well.

He is going to let me go home and if I go into labor I will go to the hospital. If I don't go into labor he will admit me the next morning for induction.

I thought it might be something like that. Thanks to both of you for explaining.

I can't believe you're already at 32 weeks! It feels like just yesterday you announced it was a girl.

I ended up being induced with Pitocin and had my water broken after a few hours. My OB had done a membrane sweep the day before which got things moving but I failed to progress on my own. While it wasn't a pleasant experience, I was really happy in the end (it's kind of hard not to be when you have this wonderful screaming baby in your arms). Good luck!
